VIR’s RacePlex™ Motorsports Industrial Park gives its tenants a unique opportunity to develop products from a trackside location with optimum vehicle testing capabilities including four distinct road courses, a 5/8-mile karting course, and a variety of off-road courses and terrain. Shop size ranges from 2,500 to 20,000 square feet.

Southside Virginia is well known in the Mid-Atlantic region as “Motorsports Alley”. Companies who establish a presence here also have the added advantage of operating in close proximity to other race support and automotive businesses.

Arguably two of the most exciting opportunities found at VIR’s RacePlex™ are the Virginia Institute of Performance Engineering and Research (VIPER) and the Joint Unmanned Systems Testing Experimentation and Research Center (JOUSTER). Both of these initiatives are partnerships with IALR, Virginia Tech, Old Dominion University, NASA and the Department of Defense. Both will bring much needed jobs and capital investment to Southside, VA.

As an additional resource, participants will have access to VIPER’s independent third-party researchers, who provide insightful feedback while maintaining strict confidentiality.

JOUSTER The JOint Unmanned Systems Test, Experimentation and Research (JOUSTER) site is located adjacent to VIR in the Motorsports Technology Park.  It consists of a 30-acre testing site with a 12,000 sq ft command and control building.  The control building houses fully equipped classrooms and unmanned systems laboratories. An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) runway is currently planned, as is dedicated UAV airspace.  Additionally, the facilities at Virginia International Raceway which include the Tactical Training Center (TTC), live-fire ranges, and various off-road challenge courses, can be made available as needed for unmanned systems experimentation. The combined synergy of VIR, JOUSTER, and the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in Danville, VA makes the JOUSTER site the ideal location for unmanned systems research.  See more about JOUSTER by following the link at the right of this page..
