Heacock Gold Cup Vintage Races Host to Huge Crowds |
Danville, VA (June 7, 2009) - The tenth annual Heacock Classic Gold Cup SVRA Historic Races at VIRginia International Raceway saw a field of nearly 300 race entrants, plus hundreds of entrants in the car show along with an enthusiastic crowd of spectators enjoying vintage sports cars racing on a classic road course.
"The Gold Cup concept was one of our ideas from the day we decided to reopen VIR," said track partners Harvey Siegel and Connie Nyholm. "As racers ourselves in vintage races, this is a very special event and a special track. We always enjoy hosting vintage racers at VIR."

Danville, VA (May 28, 2009) - VIR announced today that entries to-date for the Heacock Classic Gold Cup SVRA Historic Races at VIR are upwards of 300 cars! MGs, Morgans, Historic Stock Cars, Ferraris, Corvettes, Historic Trans-Am racers, Mustangs, Porsches and virtually every kind of race car that raced in years past make up the field for the Gold Cup, facing the challenges of VIR's 3.27-mile road course June 5-7. Driven the way they were intended -- hard and fast -- on a track in essentially the identical layout it had when it first opened in 1957, these cars return the early days of road racing to VIR.

Stock Car Tests Coming to VIR May 26 |

Danville, VA (May 12, 2009) - VIRginia International Raceway's popular open Stock Car test day is coming, May 26. The day after Memorial Day will see some of America's favorite stock car racers testing and tuning their cars in preparation for the races at Sonoma and Watkins Glen.

VW Jetta TDI Cup Announces Partnership with iRacing.com |

ALTON, Va. (April 25, 2009) - Volkswagen of America, Inc. and its SCCA Pro Racing Jetta TDI Cup series have announced a partnership with iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations, LLC, that will allow the racing series to utilize iRacing's online racing simulations to further enhance training and recruiting capabilities. The partnership will aid in current Jetta TDI Cup driver training and identify driver candidates for future seasons.

Atterbury wins first Volkswagen TDI Cup Race of Season |
Alton, VA(April 25, 2009) - Another picture-perfect day greeted the SCCA Pro Racing Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup at VIRginia International Raceway today for Round 1 of the 2009 season. While series veterans put on a strong showing, it was rookie Joey Atterbury who took the checkered flag in the #14 Red Bull car.
The Renton, Wash. native battled another rookie driver, AJ Nealey, for much of the race with the pair swapping the lead four times during the race. Series veteran Timmy Megenbier rounded out the podium with his third-place finish.

AIM Autosport anxious to get back on track at VIR |

Woodbridge, Ontario (2009.04.22) AIM Autosport is looking forward to racing in the Bosch Engineering 250 at Virginia International Raceway this weekend for a couple of reasons. Mostly, because the Rolex Daytona Prototype team has had three months to ponder the results of the Rolex 24 at Daytona and is looking for some redemption but in truth, everyone is remembering last year's run at VIR and are really looking to get the podium that slipped away.

Atterbury and Megenbier to sit on the poles for Rounds 1 & 2 at VIR Alton, VA (April 24, 2009) - Picture-perfect conditions at VIRginia International Raceway provided an ideal setting for the SCCA Pro Racing Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup series to hit the track today for the first action of the 2009 season. Today's schedule included an open practice and a qualifying session for each of the two races that will take place at the track this weekend on the 3.27-mile road course.

I like it better than any course I've ever driven. Elkhart Lake, I guess, would be next. It is more like a natural road than Elkhart, and this is how a road course should be. It's fast, but interesting.
