DANVILLE, VA. - The most varied weekend of excitement comes to VIRginia International Raceway the weekend of October 5-7 with GT Live hosting drifting, motorcycle stunt riding, track attack competition and the KONI Challenge racing sports cars in their six-hour enduro races to cap the season for street stock racers. With the widest variety of motorsports available, GT Live's headline event is the Koni Challenge races for high-performance production sports cars, coupes and sedans. With limited modifications, these are the same cars seen on the highways every day. The VIR races will end the 2007 season for both classes, each featuring a six-hour endurance race. The big engined Grand Sport (GS) racers will take the track in the weekend's capstone, while the smaller Street Tuner (ST) class attracts the import and hot compact crowd.
GS races feature Porsche, Nissan, BMW, Mustang and Pontiac, while the ST cars attract entries such as Mazda RX-8, Chevrolet Cobalt SS, Dodge SRT-4, MINI Cooper S, Acuras and a variety of BMWs. The entire KONI Challenge field races on spec Hoosier tires, further equalizing the competition. Last year's winner Tim Traver started out crewing for the family vintage team and then took a Bob Bondurant driving school. Last year was his first major win, so the team has high hopes for a repeat this year. Traver co-drove with Mikel Miller in last year's six-hour enduro finale. Together, their No. 83 BGB Motorsports Porsche 997 completed 152 laps over the 3.27-mile VIR full course. Traver and Miller are entered in this year's event, as is TV star Patrick Dempsey. Other attractions of the GT Live weekend include such diverse programs as: . GT Sim Race: Ride in some of the world's hottest cars in cars on VIR's 3.27-mile Full Course. . Tarzan's Lap Battle: Drive your own car in on the 1.1-mile Patriot Course in a Time Attack, competing for lap times . Rally-X: drive your car on VIR's gravel rally stage roads. .
