DANVILLE, VA – A track full of Porsches is headed to VIR the weekend of August 9 & 10 when racers with the Porsche Club of American (PCA) bring their German sports cars to the historic 3.27-mile road course.
Though not the first appearance by PCA racers atVIR, this is the biggest Porsche-only race here, as Zone 2 of the club joinsforces with local regions to stage the “Rumble at the Oak Tree” races. Withcompetitors in everything from historic early models to the latest GT3 factoryracers in classes based on performance, PCA races emphasize sportsmanship andfun along with competition. “Join us in welcoming the PCA racers to VIR,”said Josh Lief, VIR’s general manager. “They’ve been here with other groupsbefore and now they have the track to themselves for the first time. Porscheshave raced at VIR from the first race in 1957 and this is another chapter intheir history here.” Bill Williams, a racer with PCA, expressed histhoughts about the track: “I’ve raced at other tracks, but the opportunity torace at VIR is just too good to pass up,” he commented. “Drivers who don’t lovedriving VIR just don’t enjoy the challenges of the best track I’ve ever seen.” Backed by Synergy Racing, a Porsche racing shoplocated at VIR’s Raceplex, CDOC, VIR’s Pro Shop and a host of additionalPorsche-oriented businesses, the Rumble promises to be another of the greatevents at VIR.
