GT Live Brings Wide-Ranging Excitement to VIR

VIR brings motorsports fans the widest variety of attractions of 2008 in the Bosch Engineering Twin Six Hours and BF Goodrich Tires GT LIVE Series, October 3-5. This weekend full of action features season finales for both of the Grand-Am KONI Challenge classes, Redline Time Attack and Formula Drift Pro-Am Presented by Mazda. The interactive portion of GT LIVE 7 @ VIR features the Mazda Drift Experience, which allows fans to get rides in equally prepared MX-5 drift cars  the BFGoodrich Tires GT Sim Race, which offers rides in time attack and race cars, free karting at the BFGoodrich Tires Karting Zone, the ability to take your own car out on the track in Tarzan’s Lapping Session and car club corrals for the many clubs participating in the event. In addition, Subaru will be presenting the WRX Track Attack, a unique chance to test drive the newest Subaru products in an autocross or get rides in them on the race track.

“This is our most diverse event of the season,” commented track General Manager Josh Lief. “It attracts fans of the KONI Challenge, to drifting; time attack; racecar rides; autocrossing; karting and more. GT LIVE has enough different events to entertain everyone.”

Event promoter Randy Grube echoed that sentiment: “we work to bring the best event possible to all of our guests,” he said. “The combination of KONI Challenge, Formula Drift Pro-Am presented By Mazda, Redline Time Attack, plus the interactive elements make this the most entertaining weekend on the calendar.”

One lucky fan will win a $100 fuel card from the NASCAR Technical Institute at their display. The Institute is also a sponsor of  the Formula D Pro-Am Finals presented by Mazda , awarding a prize to the winner, in addition to the lucky fan’s fuel card, so be sure to drop by their display and register for the prizes.

VIRginia International Raceway is a multi-purpose road racing facility, located on the Dan River between Danville and South Boston, Virginia. Reopened in 2000, VIR hosts a wide range professional and amateur auto and motorcycle racing and track events, and is well established as “America’s Motorsport Resort.” In addition to its historic 3.27 mile natural-terrain road racing circuit, VIR is the cornerstone of VIR Club, America's first motorsports country club; the VIR Raceplex Industrial Park and Motorsports Technology Park, which includes the Virginia Institute for Performance Engineering and Research (“VIPER”); the Plantation Valley Kart Track, a 5/8 mile paved natural terrain karting circuit; an expanding variety of on-site lodging (with 45 hotel rooms and the trackside Villas which are for sale); Camp Motorsport for enthusiasts of all ages; and the Oak Tree Tavern, a full-service restaurant located within the circa-1840 Plantation Clubhouse.

VIR’s racing season keeps going strong with the Championship Cup Series motorcycle races coming up September 20-21, followed the next weekend by Sportscar Vintage Racing Association’s vintage sports cars and the Reunion of the IMSA Radial Challenge competitors. The weekend of October 3-5 sees GT LIVE and the KONI Challenge bring their combination of drifting, track attack and endurance sports car races with the KONI Challenge series finales. These events are all combined with a wide variety of amateur and vintage road racing and schools throughout the year.
