Bobby Labonte to Drive Grand-Am Rolex Cup Sports Car at Martinsville NASCAR Race
DANVILLE, VA. – Bobby Labonte will give NASCAR fans the chance to see a different kind of race car on the oval at Martinsville this Saturday. Blending the worlds of NASCAR short track racing with the Rolex Series Daytona Prototypes, the 2000 NEXTEL Cup champion will drive Finlay Motorsports’ No. 19 Z-Line Designs/Mission Residential/Make-A-Wish Foundation Ford Crawford on the track prior to Saturday’s Craftsman Truck Series race. This is the same car Labonte drove in the 2007 Rolex 24 at Daytona endurance race.

Following a demonstration run on Martinsville’s .526-mile paperclip-shaped oval, the brilliant orange and black-liveried car will be on display in VIRginia International Raceway’s tent at Martinsville. The car is coming off a top-ten finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The car races in the series enjoyed by several other NASCAR NEXTEL Cup drivers, including Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and now-retired Rusty Wallace in their entries at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Last year’s VIR 400 was “probably the most exciting racing the track has seen,” said the track’s Kenny May. “The race came down to a last-lap, last-turn three-wide pass for the win, after racing all afternoon,” he added. The race was only decided in the approach to the final turn, making it the unofficial "pass of the year."

Fans can examine the car closely meet and the Finlay and VIR teams at Martinsville and again at the Grand-Am Rolex Series VIR 400 April 27-29. Tickets can be purchased for VIR’s major events online at Etix.com or in person at the gate.

Also on hand for the VIR400 weekend will be the open-wheeled racers from both the Skip Barber National Championship series and the Star Mazda Series. The SunTrust Moto ST Motorcycle Endurance Series adds its brand of two-wheeled exciting racing to the slate, making the weekend something for fans of all forms of motorsport.

VIRginia International Raceway is a multi-purpose road racing facility, located just on the Dan River between Danville and South Boston, Virginia. In addition to its 3.27 mile natural-terrain road racing circuit, VIR is the cornerstone of VIR Club, America’s first motorsports country club; the VIR Raceplex Industrial Park; the Plantation Valley Kart Track, a 5/8 mile paved karting circuit; The Lodge at VIR, a 27-room trackside hotel; the VIR Paddock Suites and Garages, with 18 dual-purpose hospitality/lodging units and garages; Camp Motorsport; and the Oak Tree Tavern, a full-service restaurant located within the circa-1840 Plantation Clubhous
