Policies

A full list of rules for the VIR Club can be found in our 2013 VIR Club Rules.

Event Schedule

Each member day event has a schedule that shows the time and place for morning registration, driver’s meeting and when you are on track. You can find the event schedule on our event schedule page.

Registration

Registration typically starts at 7:00 AM at the location provided on the event schedule.

Driver’s Meeting

A mandatory driver’s meeting is typically scheduled for 8:00 AM on member driving events. The time and location of the meeting is provided on the event schedule.

Lunch

A member buffet lunch is included in your driving day registration fee. The buffet is typically hosted in the Pagoda which is upstairs above the snack bar and pro shops. The buffet is also offered to non-driving members and guests for $15 per person.

Helmets

With the exception of our Guest Lapping session, all members and passengers must wear a full face helmet with a motorsports SA-2005 or newer designation. You may be asked to verify the compliance of your helmet. VIR Club does not supply loaner helmets or other personal safety gear. Helmets and other personal safety gear may be purchased at the VIR Pro Shop subject to the shop’s operating hours. Open face helmets are NOT ALLOWED.

Medical Information Cards

All drivers must have a current VIR Club Medical Card on file. You can complete the VIR Medical Card on-line.

Vehicle Technical Inspection

All cars must have a fully completed and signed annual technical inspection form on file with VIR Club prior to being allowed on track. Download and print our Annual Technical Inspection Form for our mechanic. Both you and your mechanic must sign the form. VIR Club also provides a list of local Technical Inspectors.

Novice Members

New members with no prior track experience will be required to complete a VIR Driving Experience or other recognized driver training program before being allowed to take part in a passing group. New drivers with little or no prior track experience must also secure the assistance of one of our track instructors and be approved to drive solo in a passing group.

Passengers

All passengers must wear the same safety gear required by the driver.

Guest Lapping Session

Each day we schedule a free parade lap session that is slow speed and designed to give your guests an opportunity to drive their car around the track at highway speed behind a VIR pace car. Helmets are not required. All guest drivers and passengers must visit registration and sign the VIR release and waiver. Guest drivers and passengers will be issued a wristband that they will show to the pit lane official to be allowed on track.

Qualified Passing Group Guests

You may invite a qualified driver to come as your guest to participate in a passing group. You can invite as many qualified guests as you need, but each qualified guest can only come once per year. Your guests must pre-register at least one week prior to the event and provide proof of experience in the form of a current competition license, high performance driving school certificate or extensive racing resume. The guest driver must be accepted by the VIR Club Director to take part in the member day. Your guest must also visit registration and sign the VIR release and waiver.

Guest drivers will be issued a wristband that they must show to race-control before being allowed on-track. It is the responsibility of the guest driver to be in good health with regards to the stresses of driving on a racetrack. All guest drivers must be 18 years or older and have a current driver’s license. Drivers younger than 18 will only be considered as guest drivers if they hold a current competition racing license with a recognized sanctioning body and then their driving participation is entirely at the discretion of the VIR Club Director. The primary club member does not have to register and drive, but must attend the member day and be present at VIR with their guests.

Convertibles

For your safety, the VIR Club does not allow convertibles without rollover protection to participate on-track. All rollover systems must meet the “broom handle test” which measures whether the driver’s head with the helmet on fits below a line formed from the top of the rollover bar to the top of the dashboard. Please review our 2013 VIR Club Rules for additional information on convertibles.
